So I’m a bit of a geek. Okay a lot of geek, but proud of it. 😀  I love smiley faces or emoticons and I am mildly obsessed with vampires so it seemed like a good fit to smash them together in one fun hat.

I liked how this turned out so well I made it my official blood draw hat to wear when getting my bloodwork, which happens way too much with my health issues but how can you not smile when you are wearing this hat?

Hat Base: using yellow / gold yarn

Use Easy Peasy Crochet Beanie Size of your choice

Once you have completed your beanie for the yellow / gold hat base you are ready to start customizing your own fun Vampire Smiley Face hat to wear!
Starting off we are going to put a simple contrast color band to the bottom of the hat.  For this sl st your black yarn to a st on the last round. Ch 1, then work 1 sc in each st around, sl st to top of first st in round before finishing off. Put to side until hat assembly.

Eyes (Make 2): Using black yarn
Round 1: In a magic circle, ch 1 before placing st in the following order in to your m.c.: 2 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 3 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. Sl st in to the top of 1st st in round.
Cut yarn leaving a long enough tail so that you can sew your eyes on to the beanie hat during finishing off stage.

Fangs (Make 2): using black yarn
Make a chain of 9 before pulling yarn through, making sure you are leaving a yarn tail long enough to secure on to beanie during assembly. Repeat for second fang and put to side until needed in assembly.

Smile: using black yarn
Main Smile part: Make a chain of  20 before pulling yarn through, making sure you are leaving a yarn tail long enough to secure on to beanie during assembly. Put to side until needed.
Smile sides (make 2): Make a chain of  before pulling yarn through, making sure you are leaving a yarn tail long enough to secure on to beanie during assembly. Repeat for second smile side and put to side until needed in assembly.

Blood drop: using red yarn
Large blood droplet: using red yarn
Round 1: In magic circle, ch 1 before placing 4 sc in to circle. Pull circle closed and sl st in to the top of 1st st in round. (4 sc)
Round 2:  Ch 2 before placing 1 dc in 2nd st leaving 1st st unworked, and sl st in to the following st.
Make sure you are leaving a yarn tail long enough to secure on to beanie during assembly before cutting yarn and pulling through. Put to side until needed.
Small blood droplet: using red yarn
Round 1: In magic circle, ch 1 before placing 4 sc in to circle. Pull circle closed and sl st in to the top of 1st st in round. (4 sc)
Round 2:  Ch 3 before placing 1 sc in 2nd st leaving 1st st unworked and sl st in to the following st.
Make sure you that are leaving a long enough yarn tail in order to secure it  on to beanie below fang during assembly in finishing off process before cutting yarn and pulling through. Put to side until needed.

Finishing off:
Taking the tail left on the main smile ch use your yarn needle to secure it in place.  Once secure pull the yarn through to the back before fastening off.
Now using your yarn needle, sew one side smile piece on each end of the smile, pulling yarn through to back once secure and fasten off.
Next take the tail from one eye and use your yarn needle to sew it in desired place.  As before, once secure, pull yarn to back and fasten off.  Repeat this process for the second eye.
Using the tail left on the  large blood drop and your yarn needle, sew the droplet in the desired location on the front of the hat below fang.  (You can reference my pictures to see how I placed my own.) Repeat this process with small blood droplet.
Check for any tails or ends that you may have missed in process to weave in and finish off. Do so if you find any. Then you are all done.
