Domo Kun and Pink Domo Love Beanie Hats Crochet Pattern

Are you a fan of Domo Kun? Perhaps you need a fun and quick gift for a loved one that is fan.. This was an easy and fun crochet project for me being a fan of Domo.  I rarely make crochet items for myself but I couldn’t resist making up this pair to add to my collection. 🙂

This is a beginner crochet pattern. All you need to know is how to work basic rows back and forth and work in the round.  Give this cute little guy a try.

Domo Kun and Pink Domo Love Beanie Hats Crochet Pattern Notes

Project requires:
Medium to Dark Brown for Beanie Hat main color for Domo Kun hat-  (I use a lot of Red Heart Saver yarn but any medium to normal weight yarn will do) I used a white on this one but subsequent ones I opted for a very light cream
Pink Yarn for face beanie hat main color for Pink Domo Love hat
Black Yarn for eyes
Red yarn for mouth area (and hearts on Pink Domo Love hat)
White Yarn for Teeth
“J” hook (6.0 mm)
Scissors or Yarn Cutter
Blunt large eye yarn / tapestry needle to weave in ends

Abbreviations used in this pattern (US crochet stitches):
ch – chain
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet (US)
dc – double crochet (US) 
hdc – half double crochet (US) 

Pattern Instructions:

Hat Base: in main color yarn (Brown for Domo Kun and pink for Domo Love)

Use Easy Peasy Crochet Beanie Size of your choice.  I used the preteen/ teen/ women’s size for hats in pictures for this pattern.

For Pink Domo love hat only:  using red yarn for contrast trim
Attach red yarn to where you left off in last round of hat with a sl st. Ch 1 before placing 1 sc in 1st st and in each of the st around. Sl st in to the top of the 1st st in round and fasten off.

Eyes (Make 2): using black yarn
Round 1: In magic circle, ch 2 before placing 8 dc in to the circle. Pull circle closed. Sl st to the top of the 1st st in round. (8 dc)
Leave a long yarn tail to secure eye on to beanie during assembly before cutting yarn and pulling through. Put to side until needed during finishing off steps.
Repeat process above for the second eye.

Mouth Area: using red yarn
Round 1: Ch 14, dc in 3rd ch from hook and following 11 ch. Ch 2 and turn. (12 dc)
Round 2-3: Place 1 dc in 1st st and each of the following 11 st across. Ch 2 and turn. (12 dc)
Round 4: Place 1 dc in 1st st and each of the following st across.  Ch 1 and turn(12 dc)
Round 5: Work 1 sc in each st around perimeter of mouth area, placing (1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc) into each of the corners to give a sharper corner.  Sl st to top of first st in round.
Cut yarn then pull through leaving a long enough of a yarn tail to secure to hat during assembly.

Teeth Rows (Make 2): using white yarn
Round 1: Ch 13, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and following 11 ch across. Ch 1 and turn. (12 sc)
Round 2: *Sl st in 1st st, (1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc) in next st, sl st in to the next st. * repeat three more times across. Pull yarn through leaving tail long enough to secure to mouth area.
Repeat process above for second row of teeth.

Hearts ( for Pink Domo Love hat only – Make 2): using red yarn
Round 1: In magic circle, ch 2 before placing 10 dc in circle. Pull circled closed and sl st in to the top of the 1st st in the round. (10 dc)
Round 2:  Ch 1 before placing (1 sc, 1 hdc) in 1st st, (1 hdc, 1 dc) in 2nd st, 3 dc in next st, 1 hdc in next st, 1 sc in next st, ch 1, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next, 3 dc in next st, (1 dc, 1 hdc) next st, (1 hdc, 1 sc) next st and sl st in top of the 1st st in round. (18 st total)
Make sure you leave tail long enough to sew the heart securely on to the beanie hat during assembly before cutting your yarn and pulling through.

Mouth Assembly:
Starting with the tail on one of the teeth rows and using your yarn needle sew one row of teeth on the top of the mouth area with teeth pointing downwards.  Once secure, pull yarn to back of mouth area before fastening off.
Now take the tail from the second row of teeth and use needle to sew the teeth on the bottom of the mouth area with teeth points pointing up.  Once secure, like before, pull yarn to back of mouth area before fastening off.

Finishing off steps:
Using red tail left on the assembled mouth area to sew the mouth area directly on to the beanie with your yarn needle. Bring yarn to inside of hat when completed secured before fastening off.
Using tail on one eye and your yarn needle, sew it into it’s desired location. Again once it is secure, pull yarn through to inside of hat before fastening off.
Repeat this process for second eye.

Pink Domo Love instructions only:
Take the tail on one of your completed red hearts from before and yarn needle to sew the heart in place on one side of face features on hat.  Once secure, pull yarn in to inside of your hat before finishing off.  Repeat process for second heart on other side of face.

Check for any tails or ends that you may have missed in process to weave in and finish off. Do so if you find any. Then you are all done.  One completed
