Hello Kitty Character Beanie Hat Free Crochet Pattern

Hello Kitty is just so darn cute and hard to resist.  I can’t help but be drawn to anything and everything HK.  I designed this pattern originally for a gift and at a request for an easy pattern for a beginner to be able to make her beloved Hello Kitty in to a character hat.  I loved it so much I made up my own to wear. :)

You will be surprised at how easy this actually is to make.  If you know how to work in the round, you can make us this beanie hat of Hello Kitty in a short amount of time.  It makes a fun hat to wear or a perfect gift for the Hello Kitty fan in your life.  I have a feeling this is going to be a highly requested gift for the holidays this year from my own family.

Ear Backs plus Ear Assembly (Make 2): using white yarn
Repeat Rows 1 -4 of Ear Fronts but do not fasten off at end of Row 4.  Unlike the Ear Fronts, you want to leave a nice long yarn tail at the beginning of your piece. You will use this to attach your ear to your Hello Kitty hat once assembled.
Ch 1 and turn.
Taking one finished ear front, place it in front of the ear back you are working up, lining up sts on both.
Row 5: Working through both pieces at once, 1 sc in each st down to bottom corner, place (1 sc, ch 1, 1 sc) in corner, work 1 sc in each st across bottom of ear. repeat * from previous corner before proceeding back up last side of your triangular shaped ears until you reach back to where you started. Sl st in to the first st and fasten off. Remember to leave starting tail for piece attached so you can sew this on during assembly.

Bow Center Circle: using red yarn
Round 1:  In a magic circle, ch 2 before placing 10 dc in to the circle.  Sl st in to the top of the 1st st in round.  (10 dc)
Round 2: Ch 1 before placing 2 sc in 1st st and in each of the following 9 st around.  Sl st in to the top of the 1st st in round.  (20 sc)
Leave a long enough tail to sew the bow center on to your bow base securely before attaching it directly on to your Hello Kitty hat during assembly before cutting your yarn, pulling through last stitch and placing to side until finishing off steps call for it to be used.

*This feature will work on toddler, youth, pre-teen, teen, womens and men sized hats very well.  For newborn to 12 month sized hats, make Round 1 in hdc instead of dc as above steps call for in pattern.  The bow is supposed to be big so don’t worry about it being too large. :)

Finishing off:
Starting from the bottom up, use the tail left on your nose and yarn needle to sew your nose in desired place long lengthwise, with each hdc and dc end of oval facing left /right.  Once secured, pull yarn to inside of hat before finishing off.
Next you want to use the tail from one eye and your yarn needle to sew one eye in to the proper place. You can reference my pictures as to where I placed them.  You want these to have the long side facing up/down on your oval shaped eyes.  Once sewn on, pull yarn to inside of hat and finish off.  Repeat this process for second eye.
Now using the tail left behind on one of Hello Kitty’s ears, use your yarn needle to secure the ear to the side top area of the beanie in desired location. You can see my pictures for where I placed my own.  Once you have it in place, pull your yarn in to the inside of the beanie before finishing off extra length. Repeat this process for the second ear.
Next take the tail left on your bow center and use your yarn needle to secure it in place on top of your bow main piece. Once firmly attached, use remaining tail and needle to sew your assembled bow directly on to your beanie hat in desired place. Normally you find it placed with the hat facing you in the top right just in front of ear in Hello Kitty images. Once you have secured your bow in place, pull yarn to inside and fasten off.
Now check over your crochet project for any tails or ends that you may have missed in process to weave in and finish off. Do so if you find any.
All done! One Hello Kitty character hat crocheted and ready to wear! :)
This was a fun and quick hat project that I can’t wait to wear myself. It will make a great gift for Hello Kitty fans or for sweet crocheted baby hats. Happy crafting!
