Captain America Superhero Beanie Hat Crochet Pattern
free crochet pattern from cRAfterChick.com
Who is Captain America? If you are a superhero fan or have one in your life then you more than likely know something about good old Captain. He has been around since the early 1940’s thanks to Marvel comics. You can learn more about him here.
This is a fun and quick project to make for a last minute gift or costume. The A can be a bit tricky for beginners but I tried to make it as clear as possible. I would recommend for advanced beginner and up but most should be able to do. This is another one of the hats in my superhero beanie hat collection that I designed and crocheted for my nephews to wear. 🙂

Hat Base:
Use Easy Peasy Crochet Beanie Size of your choice
Once you have completed your beanie for the base you are ready to start customizing your own Captain America Superhero hat for the superhero fan in your life. 🙂
Letter A Logo: using White yarn
Row 1: Start off with a chain of 20. Place 2 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in the next 6 ch, 3 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 ch, 3 hdc in following st, 1 hdc in next 6 st, and 2 hdc in last st. (24 st total)
Row 2: Ch 1 and rotate so you will be working up the unworked side of the chain. Work 1 sl st into side of last hdc and into first ch (where your hdc was worked from) before placing 1 sl st in each of the next 3 st. In next st, sl st before making a ch of 6, place 1 hdc in the 3rd ch from hook and in each of the next 3 ch. Sl st into the next ch back on A body. (You should now have a little strap across that will hook into A shape when you sew it on in one piece.) Sl st in next 12 st. Rotate your A so you will now be working on the outside perimeter. Sl st in side of hdc st and it top of 1st hdc on this side of the A. Place 1 sl st in the rest of the st around until you reach your 1st sl st in Row 2. Sl st in to the first st.
Leave an extra long yarn tail before cutting it and pulling through. You will need this tail to sew your A logo securely in place during finishing step.
*This size logo will work on toddler, teen, women’s and men’s size hats. For newborn to 12 month size hats, switch to sc and remove 4 ch from starting ch. This will allow you to remove 2 sc on each length of the A. Just make sure you remove the same amount on each side of the A or it will end up a bit lopsided.
Finishing off:
Using the tail left on the assembled large letter “A” logo from before and your yarn needle, sew the piece in the desired location on the front of the hat. (You can reference my pictures to see how I placed my own.) This is when you will also sew your strap from the inside of the A logo into position. I like to do that all in one step for less work. 😉 Once secure, pull yarn to the inside of your beanie hat before fastening off.
Check for any tails or ends that you may have missed in process to weave in and finish off. Do so if you find any. Then you are all done.
Here are some pictures to show how this Captain America inspired beanie hat looks worn from different directions once finished:
