Are you looking for an easy peasy beanie to whip up in no time? Then these patterns are for you! It doesn’t get much easier than these. Since these crochet patterns are done in Double Crochet instead of half double or single crochet like others it builds up rather quickly.
I use the Easy Peasy Beanie Crochet Pattern family sizes for the majority of my hats as a base to build on or embellish so unless drastic changes are done in process or specified elsewhere, you can start the projects listed on page on the Easy Peasy Beanie Crochet base in the size you want for your project.
Note: Some projects need scaling back if you are going to do in small infant sizes as the features would be too big to fit on newborn etc. The pattern will specify if it excludes any sizes or requires special instructions for other sizes.
Here are all the sizes in the Easy Peasy Double Crochet Beanie Pattern family:

Simply wanted to say thank you for the basic beanie hat pattern. I’ve searched everywhere and couldn’t find a basic beanie. Others have been looking as well, so don’t be surprised if you get more comments. 🙂 Have a terrific week!
Thank you! Oddly that’s why I made the pattern for myself. I got tired of trying to search for each size of beanie I needed on each project. It took a little bit to make one in each size to get it right but so glad I did. I just pull up this page when I need to refresh my mind on what I need for different sizes. 🙂
Hi I was wondering on the easy peasy double crochet hats if you have a swatch gauge you go by, I did a 3-6 month old hat and followed the crochet hook size but it seems to look small, thanks kim
First to double check a few things:
1. You are using a 6.0 mm US crochet hook J/10 or UK 4 as it is called
2. You are using a normal weight yarn. Less ply yarn like baby yarn or a heavy bulky yarn will end up with different results than in pattern. Smaller for less ply and larger for higher ply.
3. You are making the pattern in US double crochet for dc and not UK dc which is single crochet US.
If you are trouble shooting your end result and are following above, you might want to print out this great chart from Ravelry here: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hat-sizing-chart—newborn-through-mens-sizes You can see how big your increase circle should be on the hat before doing standard rounds around without increases until you reached the required length desired for hat length. I use this as a minimum guideline when making all my hat patterns. I hope this helps!
Thanks for the pattern!
My skills are not advanced but this info may help Kim and others. I made two hats in the largest size (family has big heads!) using a 6.0 hook. Hat #1 made of Red Heart. Fit fine and as pictured. I did add additional rows of SC to make a roll-up brim but it fit fine without those. Hat #2 I made with a softer Yarn Bee yarn. It is rated as Medium (as is Red Heart) it is rated as #4 thickness (as is Red Heart) and the yarn LOOKS LIKE the thickness of Red Heart. After finishing Row 13, Hat #2 looked like it would fit a child (except it might have been too wide) It fit me like a yarmulke just sitting on the top of my head. To get it long enough to reach my ears, I had to repeat the Row 6-13 directions for an additional 15 rows! This is not pattern flaw but may explain Kim’s problem. For a rough guage, I measured the diameter of each with just Row 1-2. Diameter of the circle = 3in for Hat #1. But for Hat #2, Row 1-2 = 2.5 in. A difference of 1/2 inches after two rows will be huge difference after 14 rows.
Just wanted to say thanks, have been crocheting for many years never have I thought to chain two instead of three for a double crochet Works great makes a big difference. Again thanks for the ideal?
